This time of year always makes me think of our family trip to Costa Rica a couple years ago. Not only did we order Caipirinhas when we went out to dinner, but we bought a bottle of Cachaça so we could make the cocktail while we were relaxing at home too.
P.S. it’s pronounced “Kai-Pee-Reen-Ya” in case you were wondering!
Cachaça is a distilled spirit made from sugarcane juice and it’s the most popular distilled alcoholic beverage in Brazil….but it also makes a really popular drink in Costa Rica!
What you need:
Yields 1 cocktail
∇ 1/2 of a lime
∇ 1/2 tsp sugar
∇ 2 oz. Cachaça
∇ Old-fashioned glass or small tumbler
What you do:
∇ Muddle lime in glass with the sugar
∇ Add a couple of ice cubes
∇ Pour in Cachaça
∇ Stir to mix and serve
We added a splash of seltzer water to our drinks and really enjoyed it that way.
