The Ultimate Packing List for Iceland

Kristina and I are heading to Iceland SO SOON – 1 week from today! Figuring out what to pack for a 5 day trip to a place we’ve never been is a bit of a challenge, but I’ve been checking the weather to help get an idea of what to expect and using that to narrow down my essentials. It also helped to write down our itinerary, so I had an idea of what I wanted to wear each day.

Weather in Iceland

The weather in Iceland can be pretty unpredictable and will definitely change depending on what time of the year you plan on visiting. I’ve read that you can even experience all four seasons in one day!

We’re going in October, which is “Early Winter”. Temperatures are pretty mild all year round, obviously being the coldest in the dead of winter. But early winter is one of the best times to visit because you have a better chance of seeing the Northern Lights (which is probably on most people’s bucket lists!) – not to mention, less crowds because the busy summer tourist season will be over.

Based on what I’ve been seeing on accuweather, the temperatures should be around 45 degrees during the day and dropping down to mid-30’s each night. Wearing layers will be the key to feeling comfortable in the changing temps.
